Optimum compliance with driving and rest times: More sleep and less stress for truck drivers

Truck drivers know how important it is to comply with the statutory driving and rest times. But what do you do if the truck has to run constantly to keep the battery charged?

This is where the Negus Comfort Booster for trucks with temperature-controlled goods comes into play – an innovative solution that allows you to make the most of your rest periods.

The challenge with driving and rest times and power consumption...

These legally prescribed breaks are important for the safety and health of drivers. However, problems often arise during rest periods:

Unfortunately, there is a major problem in practice: truck batteries are often not designed to deliver constant power over long periods of time. After only around 4 hours, most truck batteries are already almost empty. For the driver, this means a maximum of 4 hours sleep before he has to start the engine again to cover the power requirement.

The loud engine not only disturbs truck drivers’ sleep, but also creates an unpleasant background noise that interferes with the necessary rest. This constant noise makes it almost impossible to really make use of the legally prescribed rest periods.

A typical truck rest period can quickly be compromised by the need to keep the engine running. This means less sleep and less rest.

to violate the applicable law of the STVO, because in § 30 Abst. 1 it says :

“When using vehicles, unnecessary noise and avoidable exhaust pollution are prohibited. In particular, it is prohibited to leave vehicle engines running unnecessarily […].”

The Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) also prohibits leaving the engine running unless there is a requirement to do so. This is stated in Section 38 (1) sentence 2 BImSchG:

“Motor vehicles must be operated in such a way that avoidable emissions are prevented and unavoidable emissions are kept to a minimum.”

What are the statutory driving and rest periods?

Truck drivers are legally obliged by the EU regulation on driving times and rest periods to take a break for a certain period of time after each journey. These rest periods are important to ensure the driver’s fitness to drive and health.

In practice, this means that truck drivers can take their legally prescribed rest periods of 11 hours per day (in exceptional cases only 9 hours) during this break without the pressure of an empty battery and the constant need to start the engine.

Imagine you could be in the truck during rest periods.

With the Negus Comfort Booster for trucks with temperature-controlled goods, this dream will become reality.

“For me, the charging booster is therefore more than just a technical extra – it’s a real plus for health, safety and quality of life in everyday driving”

Philippe Luft

“What my colleagues who have already installed the charging booster say sounds almost too good to be true: they are well-rested, not sweaty and start the day full of energy. Good rest is not a minor matter in long-distance transport – it is one of the factors that determine safety and performance.”
